Plan to take breaks. Plan to take a 15 to 30 minute break every four hours. This ensures that your dog will not get overly bored in the car, and trust us, bored dogs=destructive dogs. Find a nice rest stop and let your dog walk around and smell the area, throw his toy if you can find a pet park that’s enclosed. Either way, always make time for your pet to get out and stretch their legs.

Pack a “Dog Bag”. Bringing things from home or a place that your dog knows well can ease Fido up a bit. By packing his favorite toy or blanket, your dog can feel comforted. The “Dog Bag” can include treats, leash, medications, blanket, dog bed, dog safe insect repellent and a poop bags.

Update your dog’s tags. If your dog is lost on your trip, you want to find them as quickly as possible. If the number on your dog’s tag is your home phone, this could be difficult. Update the tags with your cell phone number, but also and additional emergency number for the area where you will be traveling.
