NORWALK, Ohio - Wow! Ford Motor Company is not wasting an ounce of time at the 2015 North American Auto Show in Detroit. Ford Motor Company had been known for making a big splash at the NAIAS in the past and this year the company definitely got back into the swing of things as they unveiled a trio of top-performance vehicles.
Ford kicked off the NAIAS with a trio of performance vehicles and completely stole the show, especially with their new version of the Ford GT. The all-new Ford GT features a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that is capable of OVER 600-horsepower, has a carbon fiber passenger cell, aluminum front and rear subframes, and carbon fiber body panels. Unlike the last Ford GT model, which only had 4038 models built, this version of the GT will be much more exclusive. The Ford GT is anticipated to go on sale in 2016 and is expected to be in the $250,000 to $300,000 price range.
The 2016 Shelby Mustang GT350R also made an appearance, quickly gaining recognition as the most track-capable Mustang to date. The GT350R has several aero improvements, including Ford's first use of magnetic ride control dampers. The Shelby GT350R also features the first carbon fiber wheels, which has helped to shed 50 pounds off of the vehicle! Under the hood is a flat-plane crank 5.2-liter V8 engine that is promised to boost more than 500 horsepower!
Last but not least of Ford's trio of performance vehicles was the 2016 SVT Raptor, an off-road version of the F-150. Weighing in at 500 pounds less than the previous model, the 2016 Raptor sits on a frame made made of even MORE high-strength steel. Rather than a 6.2-liter V8 engine, the all-new Raptor houses a second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that is said to produce 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.
